MUSIC APPRECIATION

Children respond naturally to the melodies and rhythms of music!  In this class, we’ll move our bodies and use our voices.  Through music we can incorporate many basic learning skills:  language skills through singing, large motor skills through movement, fine-motor skills by playing rhythm instruments.  Music also enhances positive self-esteem.  If you feel good when you’re singing and dancing, you feel good about yourself! 

LANGUAGE WORKSHOPS

Studies have repeatedly shown how easily young children grasp the phonemes of a foreign language, so we will all eagerly anticipate the pleasure and satisfaction each child will derive from this extended experience!

Hola! Yes, friends are we ~~ as we immerse ourselves in the exciting world of Spanish!  We will begin our instruction from Sr. Dough & Sra. Denise twice a week.

CREATIVE MOVEMENT/DANCE

We would like to bring out the creative side in all of our students through dance, movement, music and drama.  Guided in a nurturing environment, Creative Movement will explore both the creative and physical dimensions of each child.  They will learn dance foundations including plie, passé, and releve.  Activities develop strength, coordination, creative thinking, and expression. Children refine motor skills and explore the creative process through the use of props and imagery.

LITTLE CHEFS COOKING CLASS

In their own chef’s hat and aprons, our little chefs will learn math skills by measuring solids and liquids; science by observing how temperature changes the properties of food; colors and shapes by describing and naming foods and cooking equipment; alphabets and reading by focusing a child’s attention on the letters of the alphabet through the process of letters to form words and words to form paragraphs; and reading legendary stories and fables and match stories and foods to reinforce lessons.

Chess Instruction

Our school-aged students will be challenged by learning to play chess in their daily activities.  Researches show that Chess develops memory, improves concentration, and develops logical thinking.  Additional benefits include promoting creativity, capability to predict and foresee consequences of actions.

“NEEHOMA” Chinese  Language

Our Chinese instruction will begin February 10th.  Rachel Liu, a certified Mandarin instructor, will make sure our kindergarteners will be ready to be a part of the global leaders.  At Discover and Share, we would like to prepare your child for a future in which China will play a greater role in the global economy. 

Taking Chinese language lessons and mastering the language opens doors to nearly one-fifth of the world’s population.  The program introduces students to the four-tone phonetic system, and concentrates on the basic, everyday spoken language. Students will develop their speaking and listening skills through imitation, repetition, and role-playing in everyday life situations. The class is designed to be fun.  It includes stories, current events, and other activities in the context of the Chinese culture, such as practicing how to use chopsticks, watching traditional Chinese watercolor cartoon, celebrating traditional Chinese Holidays etc.

The Chinese courses include:
Common greetings and questions/Numbers/Year, months, days, seasons, time, etc./Money/Family members/The body/ Colors/Food/Animals and plants

Hip Hop/Jazz Dance

Children will learn beginning Hip Hop/Jazz technique and basic terminology. Increased levels of concentration and group work will be required while still emphasizing creative expression.  Dancers build strength, flexibility, basic technique, proper alignment and musicality in a fun, high-energy class.  This class will explore the roots of Hip-Hop and emphasize creative self-expression. Dancers will develop technique and musicality while creating original moves and style through freestyle improvisation. From warm-up to cool-down, this class is exciting and energizing!

Junior Chefs Cooking Class

Our junior chefs will learn advanced math and science skills by measuring solids and liquids; learn how to follow and complete recipes; properly measure ingredients.
